Amongst all the crafty, artsy towns in the Kootenays, Nelson has always stood out as a creative hub for the area, full of all sorts of artisans. It’s a town where vendors selling handmade candles and beadwork are sold right alongside small batch spirits and locally grown produce.

Night markets in Nelson seem to bring out the whole community. You’ll run into at least a dozen people you know as you stroll down the street, stopping at unique displays along the way. Children run down the sidewalks with ice cream while live music and the call of “hot sauce, try some hot sauce” create an auditory tapestry that is recognizably Nelson.

• Bring Cash: While most vendors accept cards, it’s always good to have cash on hand, especially for smaller purchases.
• Comfortable Footwear: You’ll be doing a lot of walking, so wear comfortable shoes.
• Layer Up: Market night goes until 10pm, so bring a light jacket or sweater for the evening hours.
• Support Local: All the vendors here put a lot of work into their craft. Buy local and keep supporting these local craftspeople.
